Nieve for Nueve

Back to Glaciar Martial today (Friday). We had hoped to meet up with our friends Sebastian and Julian at the bottom of the lift, but they weren't there, so we headed up by ourselves, catching one of the first chairs at 10:30. As we rode up the lift we could see a pair of skiers hiking up the upper part of the glacier at a fast clip. damn they must have gotten up early! We started skinning at the perfectly reasonable hour of 11. Here's a view, the glacier is the big snowfield in the upper left.

A long skin, but the trail was already broken for us.

The clouds started settling in at the top as it got colder. Nearly there:

Rachel rips off her skins as Nick investigates the other side- the awesome, and not very visible Cannadon Negra.

We found Sebastian and Julian at the top building a snowcave. Apparently it was them whom we had seen earlier from the lift. They were attempting to ski a peak in the next valley (Cerro Tonelli) but the low visibility turned them back. They decided to build a snow cave to sleep in next week from which to attempt the peak.

After some cheese and prosciutto sandwiches and chocolate we were itching to get after the powder. Nick takes off first down the glacier (no crevasses on this one, don't worry)
