Deep Dia Diez y Once

Apparently this weekend is the start of some Argentine holiday, so our hostel was overrun by highschoolers who thought it would be fun to crank techno until 3am. We decided to go out to escape. Centolla (King Crab) for dinner, followed by a massive slice of lemon pie.

We awoke to the sound of pounding rain! But no one else at the hostel seemed to realize the implications of this. If it is raining, it is always snowing somewhere higher up, HA! Powder day at Cerro Castor:

After a few runs under the lifts (and down in the trees where there was at least some visibility) we headed for the easy hike to off-piste. On the way out, we ran into Jacques, a Swiss ski instructor from our hostel. The first couple runs were windy and had zero visibility, but there was great snow!

The last run, the sun started breaking through the clouds, giving us some great light.

Dinner and then off to the Irish Pub with our friends- Jacques, Andres, Sebastian, and Julian. Strange, it was snowing popcorn.

Everyone seems to smoke in Argentina, but not R2D2.

Next day looked nice and with the fresh snow we thought we'd give the glacier another go. Andres and Jacques joined us.

The hike up went fairly quickly, and we sheltered against the cliff wall, where we had the company of a small Virgin Mary statue nestled into the rocks.

The snow was not as powdery as before, apparently the wind had gotten to it before us, but it still skied really well!

Jacques got some air over a little ice fall.
