Here are a couple shots taken from the waterfront in Ushuaia...
"Ushuaia End of the World, Beginning of Everything"
Monday was a beautiful sunny day with no wind. We went back to Cerro Castor, and skied with our new friend Andres, a ski instructor from Spain.
We skied a similar line off the back side, this time with the intentions of making our way back onto the ski area through the arboles (trees).
We skied down this chute (which had some really nice powder) with the intention of exiting through the woods below. they turned out to be an impenetrable jungle, so we ended up skinning right back up this chute- a grueling 2 hour hell slog.
We saw a pair of condors, the silver lining to our slog.
Lunch at the patrol shack made Rachel much happier about life...
...at least until Nick wanted to take more pictures
Back in town, we had pizza and Calafate/Apple ice cream (calafate is a local berry-tasty)
Tuesday, it was back to the Martial Glaciar, but this time the lift was running.
From the top of the lift, we skinned to our objective: the large couloir on Cerro Godoy
Soon it was too steep to skin, so we broke out the ice axes and crampons. Dad - aren't you glad you sent me on Outward Bound - those skills are finally coming in handy.
Nick breaking trail...
Rachel is all smiles at the top - just don't look down :0
Nick on the descent... Sure is nice to finally find some powder.
